Playroom Design

One of the big New Years Revamp projects I’ve tackled this month is transitioning Hazel’s nursery to a playroom for the girls. We figured it was worth having the girls share a bedroom in order to get all the toys out of the living room and give the girls a dedicated play area. Oh, the joys of cramped condo living! So far, the new setup seems to be working out great.

Of course, I also loved the excuse to design a new room. Especially a playroom, where I could go crazy with color. In my mind, when it comes to kids’ play spaces, the more color the better! As long as it’s done tastefully, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That’s why when I found this tectonic floor rug at The Land of Nod, I was in love:

I knew I wanted to build the playroom around this rug. Its bold palette set the tone for a colorful and eclectic room. As I was collecting ideas for the space, this mood board of the room started to take shape:

In addition the rug, I wanted the other big focal point to be a gallery wall made from Stella’s brightly colored floor puzzles.

In the coming days, I’m going to share the DIY projects I’ve done for the room, including the puzzle wall, a revamped art easel, and some homemade toy storage — all leading up to the big playroom reveal!
