Cork (Drinking!) Problem: Inspiration

As lovers of wine, Ross and I have consumed our fair share of bottles over the years (see upcoming post for evidence of just how quickly those bottles can add up). A byproduct of our drinking habit has been hundreds (!!) of corks that I’ve saved for no particular reason other than I figured I could find something to do with them some day. I keep looking for ideas, but surprisingly haven’t come across much. Maybe most people just throw them away? How sad.
You’ve probably seen these cork bulletin board or cork trivet kits you can buy (pretty much just a square frame you arrange the corks in). I think those like the one below are nice, but I have bigger aspirations for my corks :>)

I clipped this picture awhile back because the massive jar holding all the corks caught my eye – it kind of turns the corks into a “causal” piece of art / conversation piece:

What I really want to do with my corks someday is this cork tabletop. I just need to drink a few more bottles to have enough corks… and move to a new house with a little breakfast nook / seating area to put it in (maybe as a ‘tasting table’ in our future wine cellar? ha – wishful thinking!). I don’t think I’d want to do a dining room table in this effect, but it looks really cool on the circular table below:

  1. We display our corks in a glass lampbase. Altbough, now that it's full, we need to start saving for a new project. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
